Our Projects

Live Mauri Monitoring of Ngā Rua Hu Wai o Tahu Matua
2022
Mahi Maioro Professionals partnered with Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa to develop a live tool for combining cultural monitoring data (collected by the iwi using their own dedicated app) with live environmental sensors.
The tool converts the cultural and scientific monitoring data to mauri-0-meter scores across the rohe in real-time, allowing for the iwi to accurately and rapidly monitor changes to mauri within their rohe.
The tool can be explored here.
Rotoiti and Rotomā Sewage Project
2017
Mahi Maioro Professionals supported the replacement of wastewater treatment systems which were aggravating lake eutrophication in many of the Rotorua Lakes (Waiariki). Our work demonstrated that the proposed solutions had failed to consider impacts on cultrally significant sites, and provided reticulation and pre-treatment options which were cost-effective and culturally acceptable to local iwi.

Pohewa Pae Tawhiti - Communicating Land Use Changes
2020 (ongoing)
Mahi Maioro Professionals is involved in the Our Land and Water National Science Challenge, which involves the development of a holistic communication and visualisation tool for communicating land use changes. The project includes co-development of the tool with Te Arawa Iwi and five Crown Research Institutes in Aotearoa, and has so far shown that the measurement of mauri can allow for more meaningful understanding of projects .
Hill St Intersection
2018
Mahi Maioro Professionals assisted Ngāti Manuhiri in evaluating options for improvements to the Hill Street Intersection near Warkworth. Previous assessments had been completed, however the proposed solutions failed to enhance taiao/ecosystem and manawhenua/cultural outcomes. Through use of the Mauri Model, an opportunity was identified which improved outcomes for local iwi as well as non-Māori.
